At UPMC in Central Pa. Imaging, we know that mammography is essential to the detection and treatment of breast cancer, benign breast tumors and cysts. That is why we work hard to provide the most comprehensive and convenient services in central Pennsylvania. We are proud that UPMC in Central Pa. Imaging has been designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology, because of our high-quality service, caring staff and commitment to technology.
While recommendations vary about when to begin breast cancer screenings, UPMC in Central Pa. recommends screening exams should start at the age of 40. We offer both 2D and 3D mammography for breast cancer screenings. It is important to talk to your primary care provider about when you should start having regular screenings and the type of mammography that would be best for you. Your provider may want you to start regular screening sooner based on your family's health history.
The GeniusTM 3D Mammography exam is now the only mammogram that is FDA approved as superior for dense breasts. UPMC in Central Pa. was among the first to bring tomosynthesis or 3D mammography to women in Central Pennsylvania and offers this new technology at several of our imaging offices on both the east and west shores. With 3D screening mammography our physicians are currently experiencing increases in breast cancer detection of 34% and reduced patient call back rates of 32%.
3D mammography gives radiologists the ability to view inside the breast layer by layer, helping to see the fine details more clearly of dense breasts by minimizing overlapping tissue.
Ask for a 3D mammogram when you schedule your next appointment.
As part of our commitment to your health, UPMC Imaging Services uses the latest, most up-to-date technology, including:
