UPMC Magee Pregnancy and Women’s Recovery Center (PWRC) is an outpatient facility that provides comprehensive, coordinated, and compassionate care to women with opioid use disorder (OUD). Eligible patients receive medicine for opioid use disorder (MOUD) including buprenorphine products and naltrexone, resources for behavioral health counseling, social support services, and routine medical care.
For more information, please call 412-641-1211.
Our treatment center is the first of its kind in the region. The PWRC provides office based MOUD for recovery, coordination of routine wellness appointments, including prenatal care for pregnant women, social services support, and connection to certified recovery specialists.
Because of our experience and progressive treatment approach, Magee’s PWRC program has established itself as a Center of Excellence in treating women with OUD. This program has helped nearly 1,000 women over the last five years and averages about 100 women in active recovery at all times.
Women in the PWRC receive treatment and support throughout the entirety of their recoveries. Women also receive resources for behavioral health counseling, psychiatric care, social services, and routine wellness appointments. Women can remain in the PWRC for as long as they like during their recovery. Treatment plans can be adapted to better fit individual needs at the time of care.
At the PWRC, our caregivers want you to succeed and help you become leaders in your recovery.
To enroll in the PWRC, you can either go to Magee’s Emergency Department or call the PWRC at 412-641-1211 for a consultation.
No appointment is needed to enter the program using the emergency department. You can arrive 24/7 and request help for a substance use disorder.
Consultation is the preferred method of admission because the PWRC can prepare for your arrival and develop a treatment plan. In the office, we have more flexibility to discuss all your options and create a plan that best suits your needs at the time.
To enter the program via consultation, please call 412-641-1211 and leave a message on our confidential phone line.
If you are eligible (based on your location, substance use, and preference) and choose buprenorphine-naloxone, you will receive outpatient recovery care through the PWRC. Staff will review all upcoming appointments and program guidelines with you.
In addition to our Oakland location, we have offices in Natrona Heights, Butler, and Clairton. The PWRC can assist with transportation to help you return for appointments. If you need an option closer to home, we’re able to start you on medication and transfer you to another program. Our goal is to ease the entry into recovery for all women.
We offer community-based services in these areas:
Telemedicine appointments also available when medically necessary. Please call 412-641-1211 to confirm clinic availability.
In some cases, you may only be eligible for methadone conversion due to where you live and/or concerns with buprenorphine-naloxone.
During pregnancy, Magee can offer an inpatient stay to begin on methadone. This typically takes around 2-3 days. You will receive the same high-quality MOUD therapy, obstetrical care, behavioral health counseling, access to psychiatric care, social services, and certified recovery specialists as in the PWRC program.
Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Please call 412-641-1211 anytime for staff assistance or to leave a confidential voicemail.
