During a heart attack, every minute is critical, not only for saving lives, but also for salvaging as much of the heart’s function as possible. That’s why UPMC Hamot initiated a direct-to-cath lab protocol. Heart attack patients are routed directly to the UPMC Hamot cath lab for immediate intervention and essential treatment, bypassing the Emergency Department altogether. This saves precious time and valuable heart muscle. At UPMC Hamot, our door-to-balloon time average is 49 minutes, below the national benchmark.
UPMC Hamot is one of only a few providers in the nation approved to perform innovative transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) procedures. A TAVR procedure implants an artificial aortic valve inside a patient’s faulty valve, eliminating the need for a heart-lung machine during surgery. At UPMC Hamot, our door-to-balloon time average is 59 minutes, below the national benchmark.
