UPMC Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, a hospital-based diploma school of nursing, was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1893. Today, the school is a part of UPMC Mercy.
UPMC Mercy remains the only faith-based health care provider in the city of Pittsburgh. UPMC Mercy provides a full range of services, including designation as a Level I Regional Resource Trauma Center and as a Primary Stroke Center.
UPMC Mercy Hospital School of Nursing is an integral part of UPMC Mercy. The school has graduated more than 6,200 nurses and has a long-standing reputation in the tri-state area for the high performance of its graduates.

The UPMC Mercy School of Nursing wishes to announce that it will host a site visit for continuing accreditation of its diploma nursing program by the ACEN. Learn more about the upcoming visit.
In earning your Professional RN Diploma from one of our UPMC Schools of Nursing, you will have met all the necessary requirements to sit for the National Council Licensure Exam (NCLEX – RN) and move forward with Nursing Licensure in the state of Pennsylvania.
Other states that our UPMC Schools of Nursing graduates have sat for the NCLEX – RN include: California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, and West Virginia.
