Building a Healthy Community for our Diverse Populations

The Center for Engagement and Inclusion’s community engagement vision is to build a healthy community for our diverse, underserved populations in partnership with key stakeholders. With the goal of creating deep impact on the health and economic development of the communities we serve, we partner with community organizations, charitable foundations, educational institutions, government, and faith-based organizations.

Educational Institutions

UPMC partners with the University of Pittsburgh to ensure we are aligning our diversity efforts and making a difference in the communities we serve.

Promoting Health Equity

  • Health
  • Youth
  • National initiative

Supplier Diversity

The UPMC Supplier Diversity Program is designed to provide minority, woman-owned, and disadvantaged businesses (MWDBE) equal access to procurement opportunities.

Charitable Giving

The UPMC Center for Engagement and Inclusion partners with nonprofit organizations and educational institutions that serve diverse, underserved communities to promote cultural awareness, health education and workforce development.

Community Health Partnership Initiative

This initiative is focused on building relationships with diverse community organizations, including Latino, immigrant, refugee, LGBTQ, and interfaith communities. We collaborate with community leaders to develop programs and resources to serve diverse populations. We aim to be partners in community health care by providing the following services:

  • Monthly health topics translated into various languages
  • Buckle Up for Life car seat program
  • Hospital tours
  • Health screenings
  • Health care technology overviews
  • Translation for health care services

Employee Volunteerism

We recognize the lasting impact we can make by serving our communities. In partnership with employees across the system, the Center for Engagement and Inclusion encourages employee participation by facilitating monthly Lend A Hand opportunities to donate items, volunteer time, or attend events. Service projects and donation drives enable employees to experience the rewards of giving back to the communities in which we all live and work. Lend A Hand barrels are located at UPMC facilities.

Board of Directors Representation

UPMC is deeply rooted in its communities and supports its leaders’ engagement in the nonprofit sector to make a difference through an important volunteer role: serving on a nonprofit board. Board service enables leaders to lend their expertise and skill set, encourages an appreciation of different perspectives, and enhances the relationship between UPMC and the organization. If your nonprofit organization is seeking representation from UPMC for your Board of Directors, please complete the following form and a representative will respond shortly.
